Effie is a senior social worker with over 20 years’ of clinical experience. She is extremely dedicated to helping clients achieve their full potential in life. Effie has worked in a myriad of clinical settings and organisational structures meaning she is well versed in clinical care at all levels. Her passion for mentorship sees her as a lecturer and tutor to the next generation of mental health professionals. Effie continues to be inspired daily at how human beings have the capacity to change their lives despite extraordinary circumstances and she firmly believes every individual deserves their story to be heard, validated and appreciated.


Effie adopts a person-centred therapy approach which involves meeting the client where they are in a non-judgmental atmosphere of warmth and collaboration. She believes it is imperative to understand the client within the larger context of their psychosocial environment and that well-being involves integrating changes on both a deeper internal level and a wider interpersonal aspect.

Treatment Philosophy


Effie began her Social Work career in the area of sexual assault and subsequently moved into mental health and addiction. Her extensive career has seen her be an integral part of many reputable public and private organisations including The Department of Health and Community Services, The Drug Use and Pregnancy Unit at The Royal Women’s Hospital and Turning Point at Eastern Health.

Besides her private practice, Effie is the Therapy Program Manager and lead therapist for the Addiction Recovery Service at The Melbourne Clinic - a position she has held for more than 12 years that involves both inpatient and outpatient recovery as well as day program support.

Her clinical work has included one-to-one counselling, couples’ therapy, family counselling, addiction education in schools, community group facilitation and training and education of multidisciplinary health professionals.

Effie has been a lecturer and is currently a tutor in the Social Work Department at Monash University and her other non-clinical work has included policy writing, client advocacy and program evaluation.
